Travel Rule Explained: Wallet Verification on VNX

At VNX, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of transparency and investor protection. VNX Commodities AG is registered as a TT Services Provider with the Financial Market Authority (FMA) of Liechtenstein and fully complies with the regulations and leading standards of investor protection including international anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing requirements. One of these global standards is known as the Travel Rule.

What Is the Travel Rule?

The Travel Rule was introduced by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to make virtual asset transactions more transparent and secure. It requires financial institutions and Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) to share basic information about the sender and recipient of a crypto transaction.

The goal is simple — to prevent misuse of cryptocurrencies for illicit activities, protect users and make the crypto ecosystem safer. By requiring basic information about wallet ownership, it helps prevent the misuse of digital assets for illicit purposes — making it harder for criminals to operate anonymously. As a result, when moving crypto between platforms, users may need to provide additional details about their wallets.

How It Works on the VNX Platform

When you deposit crypto from a new wallet or whitelist a new address for withdrawals, you’ll need to verify that the wallet belongs to you. This is a one-time requirement for each new wallet.

You’ll be asked to:

  • Provide details about your wallet (whether it is hosted or unhosted, and — if hosted — the name of the exchange or crypto platform), and
  • Confirm that you own the wallet.

Ownership can be confirmed through:

  • A screenshot of your open wallet, or
  • Message signing.

Until this verification is complete, your transaction may be temporarily on hold.

Why This Matters

By following the Travel Rule, VNX helps protect its users and the broader ecosystem from fraud, money laundering, and other risks. It’s part of our mission to combine the best of regulation, transparency, and innovation in the digital asset space.
